Mother's Day or Attention Seeking Behavior 101- Cali's Corner

Well Hello Kitties, Puppies and Pet Parents!

A very happy spring!   I have been driving my pet parent
crazy....I have so much energy...I can't keep up with myself!

I am up at the crack of dawn (so my parent says), looking out into the night sky for glimpses of 'seagulls' with my 'motion detector eyes, I can see anything.  Of course they give themselves away by squawking, or better yet 'screeching' that makes my parent most annoyed..muttering odd noises under her breath as she tries to sleep.  LOL.  I tell the gulls - turn up the volume - meow!  I never seem to get the sea gulls to come in for a visit.... (mind you we did have 2 pigeons roast in the winter...for a few seconds on the window sill...I guess they didn't like my fangs...which I showed off????

You know I have a wonderful view of my urban dwelling.....I sit from my perch, which is better than trying to navigate a tree in the park. Sure enough the fire department is 20 feet away...but if I want attention..I'd rather be in the movies...LOL

Let me tell you a story.....my human like me likes the south west window to catch the afternoon sun.  After a long winter that lasted until April....it was 'let me outta here!

Well she was working on her 'jewellery' on my small coffee table I use to get to the window..meow, that's mine I tell her.   Yes, I am able to jump on my cabinet with my vets fleece and 2 cotton towels...I demand comfort...however... I decided to surprise my human....you never guess what I came up with.   I was observing her for a while...she sure was quiet......{as a kitten I used to jump from the floor to her lower back, then up her back on to her shoulders...just so I could bet at the credenza for food.   I had tiny legs and she was just the perfect human stepladder}.  I expect she has a dozen t-shirts with tiny holes from my tiny nails in them...LOL .   It worked until I got big and developed my 'rabbit type legs'  one leap for mankind at a single bound - which is 3 feet in the air!
I decided the best way to let her know I wasn't pleased with her occupying the seat and table..was to fool her completely -- I'd jump on her back....to stop her from working...what could she do but submit...to me!  Meow.....meow..

I jumped on her back, although I'm not that big, I'm long in the body with my huge "Maine Coon" tail....well it must have been a left over that God decided, he had a spare one hanging around.  I'm a Calico Tabby at least that is what my adoption papers say
Landing on her back was easy...I kept moving around....she got closer and closer to her knees until she was almost kissing the table...LOL -- Meow aren't I good!  Just when she was thinking to wiggle I turned around, and around...slapping my tail on her shoulder...that's it - let her know who is boss!!!!    I did this for 5 minutes ...you know it's like the human version of a 'time out for kids'.

They get the picture eventually even when they are 3 years of age.    Eventually I did get down...and decided to go an annoy her more by then asking for food. She moved over to the computer table thinking she would get a reprieve....until I hid under the table, stretched up on my haunches and pretended to sharpen my claws on her jeans...LOL...'attention seeking behavior'.  Watching those nature programs and cartoons gives me some good idea!

I then decided after much
activity to sit have a wash, then a drink.....

There is never a dull moment around here...

I have all my soft rubber balls hidden around the place, which make there appearance around 1 or 2 a.m.
Silver tin foil is the very best.   I can jump on the credenza where the ear phones are and rattle them...wakie wakie........(are you asleep.......if you were...now you're not - giving a wry smirk)...

Since I'm up most of the night.... I usually sleep during the day....I have lots of hiding places and if I plan it right. I hid under the bed..where she can't see me or out of 'arms reach' LOL

Well, I guess I had better wish her a 'Happy Mother's Day'  she really is a pretty good human as they go.    I had the chef Vanessa prepare a little something....I was going to add sardines, or fresh salmon - but I ate it instead  -- leaving the fruit instead.. LOL

Spring time is wonderful with so much energy....my dwelling is a virtual play pen for cats and kitties, we do allow dogs too of course.    Humans may leave their shoes at the door LOL.

Well, I'm off to play ....and create some
more ideas how to fool my pet parent........kittens it's a good time to watch and observe them for this will help you when your grow up into adulthood!  Come back for more antics from Cali's corner........it will make your pur.......

Are you ready for fun yet.....meow...............................

Cali the Curious Cat January 2016: Anything that looks like a ball must be?

I'm purfecting what to do next!!
Cali the Curious Cat January 2015!

Well, I have been learning, growing and playing since my last post!

Mum don't move, I have your laces!

I'm a feisty, independent Calico/Tabby/Maine Coon (did someone say H20)????

I had a fabulous Christmas, I really understood what a artificial tree can be used for:  1) A great hiding place 2) A place to watch your human parent and to poke at her as she walks by 'calling your name'.   3). It's a great place for storing 'Tomatoes, and Avocado's'.

Avocado Persea americana

Solanum lycopersicum  (deadly nighshade)

When she is not looking, simply roll them off the window ledge (honestly, they aren't very heavy...they look like the bouncy rubber balls I have to play with).   I don't know the shape of the avocado looks like a 'human sat on it' (meow, meow)! LOL

She never know what will happen when I'm around!
Did you know the Avocado is also known as an Alligator Pear (yikes) I'm not staying around for that one (I'd have a 'hissy fit' for sure or hide)!

I'm the Queen of Toys, anything Round!
I simply lob any items along my path on the window sill with my big paws! Bonk, bonk, I heard my human 'nattering' 'talking to herself' "Cali did you see the vegetable I left to ripen in the sun".  (Dead silence from me.....what did she think.....I reveal my secrets....meow)!
She was walking around all for 2 days ..just as well it ....it might have eventually disappeared into the carpet. LOL

Now that the tree is down, I will have to be more creative!!

Simply wrap your paws around these stories of humans.....it will have your purring!

Any stories you wish to have featured, don't forget to comment that makes us purr too!

^..^.....!

I love to be Cali's Mentor and teach her about Humans!
Next time I will teach you how to wake up your pet parent without an electric alarm clock (meow).  I am smart, a great hunter and love to get into 'cat mischief'.

Remember to follow me here I'm now officially the Resident Intern.....!

Cat the Curious - September Post - You Asked? Yes, I love to Keep My Pet Parent Awake!

Hello, Meow.

This is Cali (the Curious).....I've had a very busy summer playing......on the road and keeping my "Pet Parent" up most nights.  It has been very hot and I'm glad it's a bit less humid.  Not like I can take my coat off ...try wearing a fur coat in 30 degree weather (100 F). No cats don't wear bathing suits either......  I'm not fond of 'showers' as I don't like water or getting splashed in the face.  Talk about bad hair day for whiskers...go ahead try it...you'll know what I mean.   I won't go to the Pet Groomer either....as they often have 'dogs' and I prefer to groom myself naturally.  Nothing worse than the smell of a wet dog...yuck......

Oh people have been asking ...are cats really nocturnal (all the more reason to see you in the dark). Well, yes.... I am nocturnal by nature, and love to play at 1 - 2 a.m. which means no sleep for some! My human counterpart is too, although she won't admit it.  I have her on her hands and knees throwing rubber balls at me, she is pretty good for a human.  Her night slight or sense of smell isn't as good as mine, so she has to always adapt...LOL.

I have these marvellous rubber balls that are so soft...it's not the same as a live mouse..but I make them move like they are.   I can catch them meeting them in mid-air, pouncing....with two paws...yesterday, I jumped
2 feet catching ..it was so easy.   I then spent the next 30 minutes annoying my pet parent as I chased them all over the apartment LOL.

You get the idea,  I actually have these hidden is all the awkward places, under the sofa........behind the sofa, under the video cabinet. I tuck them so she will have to craw on her belly to use a stick to get them out. LOL.  Some humans will do anything to get attention...I just love it...don't you!!!

The last count was 8 and even the reserve she keeps on the glass jar...has been used up!!
I have 12 of these all around the apartment - like Easter EGGS.  I think I will call hit 'Humans Go Fetch'!  She will have to go to the Pet Store and beg the manager to get more in LOL!
I have really long body and legs ...to capture anything!

Oh yeessss, I'm trying out the screen on the window to see if my nails will actually cling to the netting...LOL
I pretend to get caught up and my human runs all the way from the living room to rescue me (LOL, doesn't she know it's a trick to see how she will react)?  I may only be 16 months old but, I am learning very quickly.
I have a friend who is a clinical psychologist and I often get good tips from her on 'Human Behavior' and how to push buttons!

Last night it was 2 a.m. I could smell the milk being warmed on the stove....I watched my Pet Parent close her eyes and drink slowly..thinking this would help her sleep -- LOL ...little did she know.....

I love to play with my friend "Boppy"
she is my kitten we spend hours, frolicking
and surprising my pet parent.

Lets face it I can sleep during the day
I have a round tunnel, a super soft pet bed
and even under the bed - when I want 'time out'

Life can be pretty good for an urban cat .....
just keep your whiskers twitching and paws ready to pounce..there are always toes to chase and toes to give an affectionate bite...LOL

What will happen to my human tonight.......we'll if she's not reading this then she will never figure it out -- cause I keep learning...aren't you just curious...

More stories soon, when my human gives me something to write about....

Curious Cali - Human Step Ladder - or What I Did to Get Her Attention ^..^!

Hi Curious Cali here....(yawn)!  I was just outside playing in the field chasing a few mice!

I'm a natural climber and have no problems about heights, I leap and bound on furniture traverse across cabinets
and spy from above!

My kitten voice sends out the odd 'meep' when I want something, but I never disclose my
hiding places!!!! LOL

The spring air has given me lots of energy .......
I love to stand on my hind legs (I guess watching too many dog cartoons - LOL).
Did you know that your 'human parent' makes a great step ladder.  That's right...you can.   A vertical jump in stages is the best, just make sure your claws are nice and sharp to dig into the clothing!

I always like to see what MY human is doing, especially a meal times, when I want to see what I'm getting for my meal!  This brings you closer to the food and to use all your senses: eyes, nose and paws if you can get that close. LOL

I'm naturally athletic by nature, and I dine on on my own space called a Credenza!  It comes complete with a table cloth and I'm left to my own devices to 'eat' and 'wash up'
after (that is my face).  I don't do dishes and will never learn
despite the fact I am smart. ^..^.

Now the first time I made this leap into the heavens was bit scary,
I don't have a safety net and like great human acrobatics....
it's all in the nerve..and my whiskers help that along nicely!

The funniest thing was when I got caught in my pet parents clothing!

I was literally stuck, I thought she had arms like an orangutan -- not so  ...as I found out.  I meeped and let her know and she managed talk to me softly with reassurance. Then gently secured me
to safety.

Jemina from Cats
After all
that excitement, I ate and ate....like there was no tomorrow!

I know my mentor "Jemina" from cats would have been impressed with my efforts  Cat "Moonlight"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwfbPc4K9Og.

After a few days, I managed to get my 'kitten nerve' up again and with practice was able to make the leap in three stages: legs, upper back and mid back.    This was great fun and if you are going to practice the 'step ladder' make sure you try it with your kitten friends but don't hurt yourself.

Life as a kitten can be quite fun, no need for 'fancy' toys, when you have: a sideboard, sofa, wall unit and a human to provide plenty of playtime.  When you get tired you can 'cat nap' or chase that ball of paper around the living room at 3 a.m. to impress!!!
Cali - Nap Time

Food time: Well, attention seeking behavior is always in your best interest when it's food time.......^..^....!

I thought I'd better get my paws moving, by writing today - otherwise I may not get (supper)???  (Yeh, I know my pet parent too well........she is too good to me LOL)!!!!

Put your PAWS together and come on over and visit, play and share some food here.  We love to have your comments too.   Send me a PAW note if you have story ideas or want to share!

Cali the Curious #2 - Spring Cleaning - Fur Balls, Toys and Other Charged Particles!

^..^!  Well hello! Welcome to my blog and happy Spring to all kittens, felines, canine, four legged creatures and beloved "Pet Parents".  I'm curious - aren't you .....^..^!
..
I am so excited you see sitting from my window, playing with the vertical blinds (driving my pet parent crazy - it's only 7 a.m.).

For the first time in months, my pet parent carefully opened the living room windows enticing me to 'sniff' the fresh air, it feels wonderful on my nose and whiskers!

Well, I just managed to grab the cord from the chandelier lamp, bending over from the window sill...not a good thing to do generally after eating, but then kittens have amazing power of balance and digestion (don't they)???
Spring arrives at dinner time March 20 2015
Meow, I'm only 11 months and still learning all of this!  I slipped scaring my self silly, running across the living room carpet, to my pet parent with eyes wide open as a squirrel ^..^!  She seems to take it all in her stride, since this is the first official day of Spring, March 20, I am full of energy.  Spring will arrive officially at 6.45 p.m tonight just in time for my dinner - yummy!

^..^...I'm sitting here grooming which I dictate this blog to my pet parent -- ummm, I'm enjoying grooming on the sofa then I sneak behind the laptop to make sure she is still typing..l\o c8c0x088 (oh that is me walking across the keyboard...a little variety is good for kittens, always plenty to explore.
A little moisture evaporates
^..^....A little 'kitten advice'. This is shedding season for kitten and cats, which means 'fur ball' issues. Getting rid of the winter fur is a challenge, it happens naturally.  We can't digest the fur and this sometimes gets trapped in our intestinal track.  It is the season to be giving (lol ^..^).  My pet parent has been very kind offering little fur ball treats (broken up small, and this morning I has a delicious salmon paste - yummy).

I'm pleased too that the humidifier has been adjusted to 30-35% as it was the 'charge of the light brigade' with static shock, which created 'bad hair days', me flying across the room and staying in one place  (lying on paper as a neutral position):
Thanks to funnypics.com for the inspiration.

The science of it all! "Protons, neutrons and electrons are very different from each other. They have their own properties, or characteristics. One of these properties is called an electrical charge. Protons have what we call a "positive" (+) charge. Electrons have a "negative" (-) charge. Neutrons have no charge, they are neutral.
The charge of one proton is equal in strength to the charge of one electron. When the number of protons in an atom equals the number of electrons, the atom itself has no overall charge, it is neutral.

So what are atoms made of? In the middle of each atom is a "nucleus." The nucleus contains two kinds of tiny particles, called protons and neutrons. Orbiting around the nucleus are even smaller particles called electrons. The 115 (the #5 looks like me sitting on the window sill LOL) kinds of atoms are different from each other because they have different numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons.

Static electricity is common when the air is dry and the humidity is low, so it is a much more frequent problem in the winter months when the air is cold and dry, and indoor heating removes moisture from the air. Problem static electricity can also occur year-round in places with a dry climate. Your pet’s fur will build up a small electrical charge, and sometimes the fur may even visibly stand on-end. When you touch your pet, you both may receive a small shock.
"Playing in the Neutral Zone" LOL

Not surprisingly, the solution is to add moisture back to your environment and/or your pet’s fur. A room humidifier will add needed moisture to the air, reducing static electricity. A light mist of water on your pet’s fur will make the fur incapable of holding a static charge. You can also add moisture to your pet’s fur by bathing a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, you can also get ionic brushes to help eliminate this http:www.petmeds.org Also, consider adding an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement to your pet’s diet to keep his coat healthy, shiny and moisturized from the inside-out".

Always check with your Veterinarian or friendly technician on these issues.
Well after all this I'm off to EAT and get a snack - meow!! Stretching my paws and running to my food station!!! ^..^!

Whether you are a kitten, cat, canine
or pet parent, Spring is wonderful!

Please take extra care to keep things like:

Q-tips (kittens love to chew on the ends of the cotton): string, elastic bands away from your beloved pet children, as they can cause serious GI issues.

My loving pet parent is extra careful and we often play on the carpet together, with all my lovely toys.  Do take care until next time run around the room, chase your pet parent and keep your white paws shinny and clean!

We love to have your comments, 'tap your paws away and let us know what you think (wiggling whiskers)!!
Its time to play - enjoy your day! Happy PAWS!

Cali the Curious : Queen of the Towels and Towers - Post 101

"Cali the Curious"

Hello!  ^..^  I'm "Cali the Curious".  I'm 8 month old and incorrigible  (did some one say "A BALL").

I am Queen of the Towels and Towers, at least that's what my mum says.  I have a pile of 3 towels on my dresser and a huge vets fleece for sleeping.   I climb anything that isn't glued to the floor or nailed down...because I CAN and DO!

I have very fast paws that run like the wind and can climb ANY THING!!!  Five feet humans too!
I'm just thinking what mischief I can get into next!

Yes, I recently did a fine job of mountaineer running up sideways on a mattress that was put there for ME!

I actually didn't even think or worry my ears about it....
you see I was after a Dream Catcher hanging from the door way!

Kitten's like batteries need to recharge!

I think when I grow up a bit and I'm not chasing toy mice...I want to be a detective, journalist or maybe a writer.  I don't know yet - being 8 months old...I have a lot of exploring, hiding my toys, eating or drinking.    Who knows????

My mum called me the 'energizer' ....I wake around 4 every morning for a feeding, maybe throw around my worn and battered mouse...it keeps hiding on me.

Which is not cool as I'm getting bigger and I get stuck under the sofa ......even though my waist is still petite.

I have learned how to: Stand upright on my back paws my my full height - this makes my 'mum' laugh as she tries to tickle my tummy. I  stand on chair, looking for toys, food or anything!  I'm a mastermind of the dreaded 'Crab Walk" to scare and intimidate her.  Traverse book cases in single bound.   Run like a mad monkey and terrorize my best friend 'Bop, Bop' (toy) who I treat like a kitten and play rough.

I observe my humans
hand movements and anticipate them. I know the 'signals'. I know when she doesn't have socks on and can pounce at her bear feet; screaming at me when she's not awake - before FIRST COFFEE _ MEOW. Don't you just love it...I do!! Meep, that is fun....

I love anything that moves, the television. the mouse that tries to talk to the computer. The clock on the wall keep my eyes in focus - until I get dizzy or get bored!  MEOW!

About cameras: I love the camera and my 'mum' will try to take photo's of me when I'm sleeping.  Sometimes a 'gal' has to have some privacy to I run under the bed and sleep for hours! Wouldn't you......???? ^,,^

^..^  JUST TURN YOUR HEAD TO THE RIGHT - OR TURN YOUR MONITOR UPSIDE DOWN  ^..^

^,,^Ok, Ok.  I just found out my mum entered me into this photo contest on "Modern Cat  Magazine" a friend of hers got her the magazine...yay!!!  I love to be the centre of attention - don't you?   VOTE FOR ME HERE PLEASE:   http://moderncat.com/photocontest/entry/cali-kalamazoo-happy-cat   CLICK ON THE VOTING BUTTON.....You can vote for me and this will make my PAWS VERY HAPPY !!!!

You know I'm a none stop purring machine - in actual fact I haven't stopped singing since I was adopted int the summer or 12 of June, 2014. LOL.  .....
{Rattle rattle, GOTTA RUN - I hear the fridge door )......TIME TO EAT................

WE hope  you had a purfect CHRISTMAS  and are not too FULL OF TURKEY....!

See you in the New Year ^,,^.....follow me cause I'm CUTE AND CURIOUS! ^,,^

Post 100. Curious Cali - Enter Stage Right

Pawsing for memories!
Well, Hello MY Darlings!

Fall brings us significant changes and delightful time to chasing through mounds of leaves that smell so earthy good!  Bringing back memories.

I love to lie on by back and view the birds.kites in the air! ...ummm tree climbing ..I'll leave that to my human (I love to see her palms sweet  as she climbs up the extension ladder LOL).
(Knock, knock, determined paws echo from the front door of my office)
"Hello, Curious Cali (boundless energy) is that you, did you forget the entry code again?  "Hello, sorry I'm a bit late, distractions on the way" I have a story about Spider plants.    Did  you know I have hollow paws (I eat all the time, (smirking).

Curious Cali - Speaks

(Clearing her meow - meep, meep... she began)....I ran, stopped ...check my nails to make sure they were sharp.....(I ran like a hermit crab across the back of the sofa out of reach).  Scrambled up onto the book case, walked along and then jumped over the watering can (do you think obstacles will distract me) - no no....kitten can do anything (why do you think I watch the nature programs on TV -meow).  I viewed a huge spider plant for the taking....(oh delicious safe to eat greens - chomp, chomp).    In a bounding leap I jumped to the bookcase testing my legs I knew I could leap 2-3 feet (I practice on the credenza).

I had to then traverse over a water can which was the length of my paws (umm). I found a space and walked over to the side of the plant out of sight and reach (LOL).

On my left was a prayer plant to use as a chandelier (No no, I've never been in circus - yet).

(think think....) I used my nose and whiskers balancing my tail in the air for leverage.... to guide me back.  Bonk, crash down went the books..on the floor....(human jumps out of her skin....with her eyes dagger with anger)......

Spider Plant: Chlorophytum comosum, often called the spider plant, airplane plant or hen-and-chickens, is a flowering perennial herb. It is native to tropical and southern Africa, but has become naturalized in other parts of the world, including western Australia. Chlorophytum comosum is easy to grow as a houseplant. Kingdom: Plantae  Classification: Asparaceae and is placed in the monocots. Always check with your vet and horticulture plant store about poisonous plants. Monitor you pets on a regular basis to ensure there health.   According to my sources, Spider plants are safe for cats. In fact, according to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.), the spider plant is listed as non toxic to cats and other pets. Nonetheless, it is still advised that cats eating spider plant leaves may pose a potential risk.  http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/spider-plant/spider-plants-cats.htm

I ran into the bathroom...to the voice in the distance...
"Cali it's 1 a.m. in the morning, bed time....." (sigh) I'll hide in the bathroom and play with the sink stopper.

Chlorophytum comosum
"Well Cali that is quite the story, thank you for sharing".  "Ok" she meows running out the door.   "See you soon, off to play with my best friend 'bop, bop'. "

"Well Ok, be safe...come back in 1 hour, I have more research for you".  (sighing) "Meow........I have to eat first".

Look what I found on the internet......InspiredDesigns4YOU
