Calico in Covid Times - Newsletter Spring 2021

 

Hi Everyone!  I have been a little pre-occupied with Covid times as has my human pet parent!!!  

It certainly is lovely to have her home more often, so I can take advantage of the extra care and attention, the pampering, she is always at my beck-and-call.💜💟

I certainly to feel like Queen these days!!!!💜🂽🂽

She will even grow cat grass for me, each morning, I jump onto the windowsill on my vet's fleece (it is so cozy...and wait for the sunshine to creep around. 

To bring in the bright sun!  It wonderful to take your time to wash your face and get those whiskers all shinny and clean!   

Cat grass takes time to germinate (geez), those funny looking oat grass in the black soil.  I've been told not poke or disturb them....it's just too tempting....(LOL)😋.  She waters it every three days, and I look for the little sprouts to appear.....sooner or later little green soots poke up. Then they become junior blades of grass (I tell her no she can't have any, for her human salad LOL).   

I actually had a visitor in the window ledge outside, a  (delicious looking) beautiful pigeon with grey body and pink markings.  Luckily she didn't see me.....as I stalked her through the glass windowpane. When she wasn't looking I would creep behind her and pounce with my big baseball paws.  Maine Coon cats have them, so it's been a valuable asset to have.  To my dismay, she flew off out of harm's way...I expect she will be back though as they also like to glean in the afternoon sun!  

Well, in these Covid times, I've been doing a lot of sleeping, playing with catnip mice, dreaming about stories to write on my blog post.  Chasing my human, sleeping on my new flannel shirt (believe me you don't want to share of move so cozy). Inspecting the dwelling where I live in the morning and before bedtime.   Yep they call me "Miss Sherlock".   (My pet parent has been reading a truly 'thrilling book, that as she says like being on a roller coaster of suspense called "Secret Sky" by J.P. Mclean - Author, a great Canadian ....check it out)!   I've often caught my pet after midnight reading, then my breakfast is really late!

Living in a busy urban city, there is lots to see and do...we have mechanical cranes in the distance, not the ones that I prefer that fly and might make a nice stew!  I'll have to speak to my cat mum about that! 

I'm a Calico Red Patch-Tabby, with infusions Calico white big tummy and white socks and paws, and a sprinkle of Maine Coon for good measure.

My new human friend Kris told me about I am likely to be a red patch tabby, as she operates  a cat rescue organization.   So much fun to learn about cat-gen-etics!!

Lots of Friends for ME

I had so many friends visit it was wonderful, they are soft and cozy

and are house trained, make wonderful guests.   My human loves read to her her children,  I observed they had made themselves very comfortable either side of the pillow...to the delight of the human child!  It wasn't long before I too found a spot on the foot of the bed...and purred myself to sleep.

Oh who is the odd one out - there is a clown in every Pride of Lions!

My human must be very busy, for I was hunting after midnight and found

there were more friends that had arrived...I didn't even hear the door bell ring! LOL. (Another secret....sush....She has a favorite author J. P. McLean, while I have been hunting during the night she has been reading past 3 a.m.   My human said 'I can't put the book down, it's so good filled with suspense and intrigue') Link to here: http://www.jpmclean.net/

Good feline friends (Domestic Short Hair) ...come in all shapes and sizes...colours and .they are cheeky too like me.  Dogs do too....and make me laugh....!!!

and come with a pinch of attitude...that what gives them character!!!!!

Ok, OK.....I will share the SECRET with you...................guess where you can find them. If you ASK or PURR nicely, you might even get a 'hand knitted shawl too'.  Now if they only made it BIG ENOUGH for ME.      I guess I will have to PURR and smiles sweetly.........

Cali the Curious Cat January 2015!

Well, I have been learning, growing and playing since my last post!

Mum don't move, I have your laces!

I'm a feisty, independent Calico/Tabby/Maine Coon (did someone say H20)????

I had a fabulous Christmas, I really understood what a artificial tree can be used for:  1) A great hiding place 2) A place to watch your human parent and to poke at her as she walks by 'calling your name'.   3). It's a great place for storing 'Tomatoes, and Avocado's'.

When she is not looking, simply roll them off the window ledge (honestly, they aren't very heavy...they look like the bouncy rubber balls I have to play with).   I don't know the shape of the avocado looks like a 'human sat on it' (meow, meow)! LOL

She never know what will happen when I'm around!

Did you know the Avocado is also known as an Alligator Pear (yikes) I'm not staying around for that one (I'd have a 'hissy fit' for sure or hide)!

I'm the Queen of Toys, anything Round!

I simply lob any items along my path on the window sill with my big paws! Bonk, bonk, I heard my human 'nattering' 'talking to herself' "Cali did you see the vegetable I left to ripen in the sun".  (Dead silence from me.....what did she think.....I reveal my secrets....meow)! 

She was walking around all for 2 days ..just as well it ....it might have eventually disappeared into the carpet. LOL

Now that the tree is down, I will have to be more creative!!

Simply wrap your paws around these stories of humans.....it will have your purring!

Humans are celebrating around the globe with observances of the First Day of Advent to Hanukkah!!!

How are your PAWS, has your owner been chasing her tail lately trying to get all the chores done!  I here her mumbling as she goes through the long list, crossing off each 'done items'.   LOL

Lots of email this week and clients try to manage STRESS!!!

You know when kitten are little we tell them to EAT SLOWLY, TAKE SMALL BITES AND NOT TO RUN AROUND AFTER!   CATS KNOW 'COMMON SENSE'


1) DON'T run your tail into knots  and chase it trying to GET THINGS DONE!

2) LOOK AHEAD -- BE SENSIBLE -- BREATHE --- EAT -- DRINK - AND RELAX!  I hate to see HUMANS HYPERVENTILATE (almost as bad as a Cat with a fur ball) LOL


3) YOU CAN WASTE PURFECT TIME - YOU ONLY HAVE ONE PAIR OF PAWS!
4) TAKE IT EASY -- STAY FOCUSED.   HIRE A PART TIME SECRETARY - OR A SANTA HELPER (HUMANS CALL THEM ....ELVES _ I thought this might be a new SNACK)!!!!

5) CHILL OUT WITH CATNIP AT NIGHT AND GET TO BED EARLY (HUMANS ARE YOU LISTING)!

Soon you will feel just like ME

Listen to music, or kittens purring, a dish of warm milk and a pinch of catnip will
put things into PURSEPCTIVE.

Friday Advice: Room mates 4

Reflective Diva!

Hello MY Darlings:



The interest in room mates, continues to create a strong following.

Personalities often play out, weaving in and out like a ball of string trying to be unraveled!  It's enough to make you shake your head and whiskers!!

"A" type feline personality

Take the other day, it was normal in the kingdom, everyone was getting along (the strong personalities were behaving themselves - for once).

Optics 101

A certain male knight was exhibiting restlessness (pacing, running around the room, frolicking like a drunk foal with springtime fever).

You've got to be kidding!

His body language reveled all, head down, watching his target, prancing and poking at the ME.  "Do you want to play, do ya, do ya, come on, come on...catch me, catch me....I'm just seeing how I can tease you............".
 

The Royal Hiss shatters the airwaves

(With a deadpan expression)

Are you ignoring me.....OK I'll poke you and sniff you....see how you like it, I'm teasing you - do you know it, do ya"

I've got you under MY Spell

I think he's always acts silly (attention seeking behavior a.s.b.) around dinner time.  A rumbling stirs from within...the Royal hiss of warning...(eyes rolling  to the ceiling --what is it with this guy, didn't he get enough mice last night on the hunting patrol)?

In defense mode, blazing MY front claws...flat and square showing MY authority. Revealing, my talons like a hawk. Eyes pierced the morning light.. glaring as a fire breathing dragon, "are you ready for me darling, are you, can you take it can you".  The Royal hiss shattering the airwaves, he jumped as a scolded cat..... on all three. (Muttering he echoes.)  I'd rather concede than fight. 

Feline relationships 101

Before personalities clash like a tambourine's, getting out hand. I grab my trusty 'water pistol' changing the optics. "Come closer, closer, that's it....I see your golden eyes.......(the spray bottle spewing out an umbrella of cold water) stunning the rivalled opponent knocking Mr. Knight off his horse!!

He asked for it - -great spray bottle - lol
OK I did pinch his food, once.

He runs was down the hall across the moat muttering in dulcet tones growling

Whaaaat happened!!

 (Stunned, bewildered) "Oh my gosh, what nerve...she did that to meeee. I love to tease you like a BIG brother".

Cats hate getting their face wet.....especially if by surprise.  (Diva laughing....) Not as effective as the pie in the face but close) LOL!    (Wry smile) 'You haven't seen the last of me YET'.

  (Haughty grin...) The last word is MINE. Remember --Sr. Knight, I have the ace in my paws.

My gamekeeper knows all the mice hideouts, I maintain supply and demand list.

Room mates 301 - Yours Mine and MINE

Hello MY Darlings!

In the continuing saga about room mates, I thought speak on the aspects of  'food sharing'. 

After all (don't you agree) this is not unlike human children and sibling rivalry (giggling with paw on hip).

Being the ultimate Diva of my kingdom and calling all the shots, it can be quite surprising when your own food gets stolen (right under the hands of the lady in waiting....how does that happen (looking peeved...I ask you)!!!.

Knight Chambers

I've had lots of practice (mirror..mirror....on..the wall....) watching those British epic Edwardian drama series  'Downton Abbey...one 'Drama Queen' for another. Sr. Sammy has been out on patrol duty for most of the night (I heard him come in around 3 a.m. The familiar ring tone of his bell on his collar is like distinctive paw print).  So I let him sleep in. 
                                   
My morning started off with usual, routine of warm milk, stretches, ablutions,  going though my agenda with my PR person and organizing staff, making sure we are all on MY page.

I heard the familiar dinner gong ......food (well my stomach usually let me know before then -- LOL).  Ah yes....perhaps  "Pheasant Under Glass or (Paw)". With anchovies an an appetizer??? (lips smacks, tongue moves from side to side like a pendulum in purfect rhythm). Not like those humans with unpredictable wind screen wipers -- ah ha that is where the word "intermittent" was developed on purpose

Knight delights - feast NOT famine!

 MY food had been carefully prepared just to my liking, I was called away to deal with a minor matter.   

(Sr. Knight...thinks.....my tummy is rumbling.....Well, after being on a grueling patrol over rugged terrain and not much food I was starving.) No filed mice to be had.

Safe in the castle ....I had to grab anything I could.....I didn't see a name...however ....now I DO SEE...the feeding station has a noble mat??  

My "Giddy Aunt" my food is gone........my 'Lady in Waiting' didn't see anything......????

The "Royal We" is not AMUSED

Well, the mystery has to be resolved (with a wry smile)....ummm let see if  "two can play this came"...
 

Opps...caught  "after the fact"

(Queen...thinks) intuitive whiskers quivering....Eureka.....I feel a Sherlock Holmes idea coming on. Body language, posturing....that's it...all will be revealed.

Queen Diva remembers Queen Victoria

Queen Diva - Gives the Commands!

Hello MY Darling!

Today, we wish to honour another Queen.
Queen Victoria.

My staff are busy preparing for the "Afternoon Tea" and festivities that will ensue tonight. Of course all I have to do is 'give orders'! LOL.  Then all I have to do is relax and do what comes naturally!
All a question of 'optics' you know MY darlings. 

I've done my research and found out some history I'd like to share with you on your "Official" holiday of today.

History:

The birthday of Queen Victoria was a day for celebration in Canada long before  Confederation,  with the first legislation regarding the event being in 1845 passed by the Parliament of the Province of Canada to officially recognize May 24 as the Queen's birthday.It was noted that on that date in 1854, the 35th birthday of  Queen Victoria, some 5,000 residents of   Canada West gathered in front of  Government House (near present day King and Simcoe Streets in Toronto) to "give cheers to their queen."
  On May 24, 1866, the town of Omemee , also in Canada West, mounted a day-long fête to mark the occasion, including a gun salute at midnight, pre-dawn serenades, picnics, athletic competitions, a display of illuminations, and a torch-light procession.

Following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, May 24 was by imperial decree made Empire Day throughout the British Empire, while, in Canada, it became officially known as Victoria Day, a date to remember the late queen, who was deemed the "Mother of Confederation"

I have for the degrees the day to be an official holiday in MY kingdom.   Sr. Sammy has taken his valiant group of knights with him to ensure the message reaches the villages beyond MY realm. I have ordered him to do a little recruiting too before he returns for "Afternoon Tea"
