Newsletter from Pet Mum: When My Three Year Becomes A Diva or She's Just Like a 15 Year Old - April 10 2017

Pet "Mum" has her say!

Dear Reader :  I just had to write....Well, there comes a point in every "Mum's" life where she has to speak out use her 'Diva Voice' or what I call 'She Bear'.

I grabbed the laptop away from the "Diva" while she was having a cat nap after a huge Springtime feed!  It's just as well as I stocked up..on food...(and have to hide it in the bedside table) almost under lock and key against the huge paws of the Calico/Tabby/Maine Coon!
 (Sound echoing as fridge door screams "Close the Door").  No one reads the note on the fridge:  "Decide what you want BEFORE you OPEN the Door"!
 Need I say more!
Cali at 2 months old - Innocence!

I'm sure all of you can relate in having human toddlers in various stages of growth, discovery, toys everywhere.  What used to be NEAT for a moment in time...before bed becomes chaos -- toys scattered from laundry baskets.  Kittens with limitless boundaries, tip towing over plant pots - you really can't ground proof everything or can you?  Most of us with toddlers or kittens sleep with "one eye open" and in have mode what I call 'intuition alertness'.  Do they make coffee EXTRA, EXTRA strong?

Look mum  I'm slightly bigger ans wiser now,

Yes, you provide the most comfortable perch whatever that is, piles of vet's fleece (an excellent heat conductor - without electricity).  I even donated a flannel nightgown for the offering!

Days fall into months, you wonder if you will have enough hair in your head to survive the 'hair pulling' thinking "Oh what did she get into now".  Social time is making coffee and watching daytime TV.  Luckily nature will not leave you looking like those well worn dolls toddlers have with little or no hair - like strands of hair in a well worn swim cap.

I'm 2 and incorrigible

What happened to kitten hood?
10 Things Teenagers and Young Cat 2 Have in Common:

1) I will eat you out of house and home;
2) I will manipulate and outsmart you'
3) Just when you think things are normal, chaos will prevail;
4) I will sleep at odd times during the day so you can't at night. Hunting time begins at 11.59 p.m.
5)  I have selective deafness at will (even though my hearing is perfect and better than yours;
6) I am the master of my routines and will disrupt yours;
7) Counting to 10 ten won't work because I refused to learn. Beside 4 pays is enough and for humans only 5 fingers on one hand.  good enough
8) I can stand beside the fridge door, leaving it open until I decide to EAT;
9) My hunting skills awake at night, and teenagers party all night good planning there
10) I love to sleep in in the morning a sense of humour is healthy!
Oh Really - Mum Give Up on the Singing Leave it to the Birds.

Don't you see a similarity here between cat and teenager - Attitude =  Attitude
Too Right - Cats and Teens Are Really Doing This Behind You

Well, I guess I'm a little 'Older and Wiser, and perhaps metaphorically grayer.
What happen to kitten hood, did I fall asleep one night and wake up to a young adult cat? Who is now 3 years old.  A demanding Diva, with Tricks up her paws!
Well, live goes on and I expect Cali will have something to say as a rebuttal of this post.  It was worth a try...."Dear Reader"  I'm sure  you have your own stories too.

Dogs are so 'well behaved'!!!!

Come back soon for the next posting.......!  (Excuse me while I YAWN).

Cali the Curious : Queen of the Towels and Towers - Post 101

"Cali the Curious"

Hello!  ^..^  I'm "Cali the Curious".  I'm 8 month old and incorrigible  (did some one say "A BALL").

I am Queen of the Towels and Towers, at least that's what my mum says.  I have a pile of 3 towels on my dresser and a huge vets fleece for sleeping.   I climb anything that isn't glued to the floor or nailed down...because I CAN and DO!

I have very fast paws that run like the wind and can climb ANY THING!!!  Five feet humans too!
I'm just thinking what mischief I can get into next!

Yes, I recently did a fine job of mountaineer running up sideways on a mattress that was put there for ME!

I actually didn't even think or worry my ears about it....
you see I was after a Dream Catcher hanging from the door way!

Kitten's like batteries need to recharge!

I think when I grow up a bit and I'm not chasing toy mice...I want to be a detective, journalist or maybe a writer.  I don't know yet - being 8 months old...I have a lot of exploring, hiding my toys, eating or drinking.    Who knows????

My mum called me the 'energizer' ....I wake around 4 every morning for a feeding, maybe throw around my worn and battered mouse...it keeps hiding on me.

Which is not cool as I'm getting bigger and I get stuck under the sofa ......even though my waist is still petite.

I have learned how to: Stand upright on my back paws my my full height - this makes my 'mum' laugh as she tries to tickle my tummy. I  stand on chair, looking for toys, food or anything!  I'm a mastermind of the dreaded 'Crab Walk" to scare and intimidate her.  Traverse book cases in single bound.   Run like a mad monkey and terrorize my best friend 'Bop, Bop' (toy) who I treat like a kitten and play rough.

I observe my humans
hand movements and anticipate them. I know the 'signals'. I know when she doesn't have socks on and can pounce at her bear feet; screaming at me when she's not awake - before FIRST COFFEE _ MEOW. Don't you just love it...I do!! Meep, that is fun....

I love anything that moves, the television. the mouse that tries to talk to the computer. The clock on the wall keep my eyes in focus - until I get dizzy or get bored!  MEOW!

About cameras: I love the camera and my 'mum' will try to take photo's of me when I'm sleeping.  Sometimes a 'gal' has to have some privacy to I run under the bed and sleep for hours! Wouldn't you......???? ^,,^

^..^  JUST TURN YOUR HEAD TO THE RIGHT - OR TURN YOUR MONITOR UPSIDE DOWN  ^..^

^,,^Ok, Ok.  I just found out my mum entered me into this photo contest on "Modern Cat  Magazine" a friend of hers got her the magazine...yay!!!  I love to be the centre of attention - don't you?   VOTE FOR ME HERE PLEASE:   http://moderncat.com/photocontest/entry/cali-kalamazoo-happy-cat   CLICK ON THE VOTING BUTTON.....You can vote for me and this will make my PAWS VERY HAPPY !!!!

You know I'm a none stop purring machine - in actual fact I haven't stopped singing since I was adopted int the summer or 12 of June, 2014. LOL.  .....
{Rattle rattle, GOTTA RUN - I hear the fridge door )......TIME TO EAT................

WE hope  you had a purfect CHRISTMAS  and are not too FULL OF TURKEY....!

See you in the New Year ^,,^.....follow me cause I'm CUTE AND CURIOUS! ^,,^

Special Report: Please be kind to all Animals- A devotion to "DUNDAS"

Please BE KIND to Animals!
Hello MY Darlings!

As I sat looking outside my urban window, I was just lapping some cool water before the summer humidity rolled in.

Across my desk, MY "Secretary" alerted me to read a "Notice of Adoption" regarding "Dundas".   As the story unfolded, I was very moved.  Read on:

 Toronto Downtown Hospital writes:
"Earlier today we got a phone call from a visitor to Toronto who saw a car pull up to the intersection at Dundas and University only to throw a kitten out the car door. She called us and we gave her directions to bring the kitty here. After examination and x-rays, Dr Steede noted that his leg is shattered beyond repair and will need a leg amputation.

While we can't begin to question how someone would do this to a beautiful kitten we are glad that a saint was there to help save his life"

Toronto Downtown Hospital - "Dundas" Kitten.   (LOOK AT THIS CUTE VIDEO, left hand side).

Humans please put the 'humane' back into HUMANE!  I know MY readers will be shocked at the lack of compassion and cruelty to "Dundas" Shame, shame!

Thankfully, he is in good PAWS now (he must have 'cat angels around him ^..^)!

Purfect Persistence in Foraging

Hello My Darlings!

 When it comes to food it is important to practice "purfect persistence".

According to the temperament and character inventory (Claude Robert Cloninger), the self-directed (SD) persistence can be a valuable trait to have.  I always knew this intuitively and from my own experience.  It does pay off, especially when it comes to snatching and grabbing food opportunities!

At meal times do this:
1) Guard the threshold of the kitchen, by strategically placing yourself on the floor half way between the kitchen and the hall way; 2) Observe your humans; 3) Carefully, weave in and out of their legs (without getting crushed or causing an accident), use the same technique canines use at dog training. I have observed this and it works very well.  4) Snatch any fish or chicken that has fallen and dash like mad out the reach of human hand and enjoy the spoils.5) Sit back into position (1).

:) Hint:  Guard the threshold, refuse to move even if humans yell at you! Pretend you are a dog for a moment, and have them walk over you ( a primal meow or hiss will startle them LOL) . This will make them mad. You'll laugh your head off as you observe the choreography of the humans feet as they attempt to climb over you. :)

Foraging is the act of searching for and exploiting food resources.

Happy hunting, Darlings..............................we love to hear your comments!
