Outtakes in Port Credit

The brilliant sunshine, peered into my window like the smile of a kitten.  I stretched the sleep from my body like a poised ballerina.  I washed my whiskers. My sleeping human snored loudly as usual.

Out of arms reach, I sat looking into the bedroom watching her body respond to my attention seeking behavior.  I bellowed in tones that would be deafening to most humans, but then again MY human wasn’t a morning person!

Today, I was going on a trip I had been waiting for all summer.  My aunt would be arriving soon to escort us to a place called Port Credit.  I inhaled my breakfast, bolting down the kibble.  So quickly it made me cough. Looking from side-to-side glancing for MY human. In the distance, a dull roar broke the silence ‘Diva, slow down, you’ll be sick if you eat your food too quickly, remember yesterday morning’?  I replied, ya, ya, tell me another haven’t you figured it out …I’m always RIGHT!

Suddenly, the familiar sound of the phone rang, ‘toorerp, toorerp, (sounding like a cricket with it's head stuck in a bowl of water)!  Beaming from ear to ear...Aunt had arrived, a Germanic woman with a lovely charismatic smile.

The humans greeted each other with smiles. I gave them my Cheshire grin!  I sat in the back seat, with paws hanging over the open window. Fresh fishy air tickled nose and whiskers. The aroma caused my stomach to grumble even though I was full. Cats generally have an innate olfactory heightened sense of smell. Of course I'm different thanks to my hybrid genes (calico and tabby).

Steps away from the Lake

Traffic was slow as we passed the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition); the air show was gearing up. Get me out of here! I could hear the roar of the jet overhead; I never did like loud noises even as a kitten. I began day dreaming of flying and catching the seagulls with my paws…..drifting I fell into a ‘cat nap’.

I heard the soft whisper of ‘Diva, are you awake, get up, we have arrived.

Get your paws together we are going to have some fish for lunch’.  With one eye open, I began washing my face.  Stretching, I stood up on the back seat looking out the back window.  Water, water! We had arrived at the quaint town... humans in summer clothing, strolling. The cooler air, had given way to the ‘dog days of summer’.

No work was done on Labour Day, for humans got to play that day.   Humans had collected like a penguin colony around the patio anticipating feeding time.  Wafts of grilled salmon filled my nose and tickled my whiskers. I wanted to capture it like a butterfly net, savoring the moment.   I jumped onto the chair and wriggled excitedly.  I caught MY human, shifting her gaze for a moment glaring at me.  “Diva, settle, settle”.  Well, hadn’t I heard that before?  I simply ignored her and turned around in my seat with my back to her. I knew that annoyed her,;will that be 1, 2 or 3-noying today?  I employed the ‘selective listening pose’ with ears flat back.  I gazed looking at the seagulls dancing in the air...if they get close I can grab one.  A nice entrée or snack with my fish.

My imagination took me into another place, when I heard the melodious accordion player: he was tall with an burly Eastern European build, and a lovely lyrical accent to match. For a moment I thought I was in France with my friend Toulouse!
Our eyes met, they twinkled as he spoke of memories of his homeland The joyous sound of “Knick, knack, paddy whack …..Give a dog a bone” added a playful ambience to the surroundings. How about changing the lyrics to “Knick, knack give the DIVA MORE FISH”…that’s more like it!!!

For a moment, I was dashing about chasing a young brown squirrel, the tempo was perfect! Gleeful, I began to tap out the rhythm with my paws.  Strolling along the boardwalks was my friend Toulouse Le Trekhttp://toulouseletrek.com/.   I couldn't believe my eyes....I forgot all about my pray. "Well hello little Mademoiselle, join me in an Espresso"? he asked in that delightful French-accented meow.

My humans were chatting about travel, restaurants and Paris.   The accordion player was sure attracting a large following!!  Chirping seagulls gave a loud applause, requesting an encore.

Toulouse Le Trek the Cool Cat
We ran off like scolded mice....to the coffee bar to catch up with my friend. Suddenly from the distance, I heard"'Diva, where are you???" Toulouse and I joined the humans, we drifted off into lulled conversation.   The day was wonderful. I heard my humans whispering to each other "well, Diva is enjoying herself now a chance for us to catch up. We must do this again before the summer is over." Toulouse's IPhone, beeped and then with a wide eyed grin nodded with "Another story I must investigate". Purring inside, I knew somehow we'd meet again.

I felt my mouth form into a smile (I looked up…they were doing the same…….funny how humans smiles are like cats expressions)?  We must have rubbed off on them…….cats can teach HUMANS many things. It simply takes time to train them to your will.  Yawning....I drifted again in and out of sleep.  This had been quite the DIVA DAY!

Wel, my DARLINGS - time for a snooze!!!

Autumnal Equinox - Fall is Here!

Reflections from my window!
Hello MY Darlings!

Welcome! It only seemed like a short while that we invited
Spring to our doorstep in North America!

Gazing out of my 10 floor window. I look up for a moment, lapping on my room temperature saucer of MY milk. MY human assistant is well trained! She dabs a little of the milk on her elbow to make the temperature just right!! (quintessentially ....lip smacking good).

Well, the summer is changing her metaphorical coat. Warm array of golden yellow, coppery orange add a bright canopy of colour to the horizon!!

As you know CATS are very intelligent, so I had my human do the research for ME. After all that is WHAT THEY ARE FOR (smirking).

For humans it depends on what side of the pond (did somewone say fish???) you were born: North America, Australia, England,

The New Forest - Magic Carpet Canopy

Europe.  My human is from England so she knows it as "Autumn".   Here my North American friends call it "FALL", meaning when the leaves fall off the trees (not when humans go climbing and fall out of the tree or hang upside down) LOL.  They are known to be quite clumsy. Have you ever watched them navigating trees?  They would starve to death - not like US!

The Spring Equinox diagram looks like balls of wool waiting to be chased....woo hoo!  Lets get some mice...........and start the party now!!!!

"Do ya want to play? Do ya, do ya"? This is what my best friend Sammy use to say to me.  "Let me start the annoying 1, 2, 3".

Speaking of scientists: Here is a piece of trivia. Which you might have heard in UK universities. The term Boffin, is a stock character in United Kingdom culture: a scientist, engineer, or other person engaged in technical or scientific research).  Ha ha I thought it was from "Harry Potter"

I prefer to gaze and day dream about my ancestors in Egypt!  The scientific colouration according to the Cat Fanciers Association is this:

Calico's carry the gene which called "piebald"

"The piebald gene is among the most common of all natural mutations, and manifests in many different forms dealing with the restriction of color pigment in a specific pattern.

Some form of this gene appears in all species of domesticated animals, but is absent in almost all wild animals.  The exception to the rule is the Zebra. The colouration would make them susceptible to attack by natural predators: "http://cfainc.org/modules/search/default.aspx?keyword=calico.
Well My DARLINGS - whatever you call it Autumn Equinox, Fall or Autumn.
Have a JOLLY GOOD TIME!
After MY nap I'm going out to chase come leaves --  OR do this.... NOTHING!
See you next time - Ciao DARLINGS

Celestial Sundays - Just 4 ME

Hello MY Darlings!

Celestial Sundays are what it's all about!!!  Making time for ME!

Stars sleep during the day that is why we have DAYLIGHT!
Stars enable cats see even with their SPECIAL night vision!

To do absolutely nothing, simply EAT and SLEEP.  Turn off the computer, unplug the 'cat' phone. Steal your HUMANS WATCH!

Even the universe in it's celestial wisdom ...SLOWS DOWN.  I ordered MY HUMAN to write. SNOOZE - THANK YOU VERY MUCH.................ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Let me radiate a little purr sequence for you!!!!

OH Momma that feels SO GOOD!
Celestial Night Patrol.....the eyes have it:

Fandango
[Wikepedia]- Cats have excellent night vision and can see at only one-sixth the light level required for human vision. This is partly the result of cat eyes having a tapetum lucidum which reflects any light that passes through the retina back into the eye, thereby increasing the eye's sensitivity to dim light. Another adaptation to dim light is the large pupils of cats' eyes. Unlike some big cats, such as tigers, domestic cats have slit pupils. These slit pupils [ did my human mean we have STARS IN OUR EYES - lol] can focus bright light without chromatic aberration, and are needed since the domestic cat's pupils are much larger, relative to their eyes, than the pupils of the big cats. Indeed, at low light levels a cat's pupils will expand to cover most of the exposed surface of its eyes. However, domestic cats have rather poor colour vision and (like most non-primate mammals) have only two types of  cones optimized for sensitivity to blue and yellowish green;

{Dream sequence..........nattering, body twitching in lucid day dreaming:  DID SOMEONE SAY 'ICE-CREAM' cones or M I L K},
Did you say M I L K WITH THAT?

I'd like CHEESE with my order!
they have limited ability to distinguish between red and green, although they can achieve this in some conditions.

SOUNDS OF SILENCE:  My human thinks I have SELECTIVE DEAFNESS???   Well MY DARLINGS that is her opinion not mine!!!  I choose to listen to certain frequencies THAT INTEREST MOI!

Cats have excellent hearing and can detect an extremely broad range of frequencies:

Take me to your RADAR Hertz
They can hear higher-pitched sounds than either dogs or humans, detecting frequencies from 55 kHz up to 79 kHz, a range of 10.5 octaves; while humans can only hear from 31 Hz up to 18 kHz, and dogs hear from 67 Hz to 44 kHz, which are both ranges of about 9 octaves. Cats do not use this ability to hear ultrasound for communication but it is probably important in hunting, since many species of rodents make ultrasonic calls. Cat hearing is also extremely sensitive and is among the best of any mammal, being most acute in the range of 500 Hz to 32 kHz. This sensitivity is further enhanced by the cat's large movable outer ears (their pinnae), which both amplify sounds and help a cat sense the direction from which a noise is coming. [Especially if it's a PIZZA delivery] !

Diva KNOWS BEST....it's all about CATOPTICS!!

One last thought:   Remove the watch and sleep!

Simply UNWIND

WELL MY DARLINGS............don't know about you ....I'm just CHILLING in MY Kingdom.................Ciao babio.

Books - The Cat's Meow

Hello MY Darlings!

After a busy day at my office counselling clients, I love to simply curl up with a catnip beverage and a 'good book'.   I keep a well stocked library and preferred reading list on my IPHONE.

As I have a broad range of eclectic books. I often love to delve into the universe of imagination, that's the 'cat's meow'.  Recently, I have stepped into the new arena of audio books! A new genre for me. I've always loved the smell of paper and feel of books. However, I find that my eyes get weary of late. So I simply plug in and listen instead...allowing the eyes to rest.

I was introduced through a friend to Nina Munteanu, well-known author, coach, teacher and scientist.  Her new audio book is awesome,
New SF Thriller Audio Book at IAMBIK
Available at IAMBIK
A genius of metaphor! Dawn Harvey the actress is stellar!  Each night I am transported, drifting into a whole other universe.  Outer Diverse is part of an  SF trilogy about Rhea Hawke a Galactic Guardian who is on a mission to find out why a religious sect died (spell binding and cool).  Perhaps there is a family secret........you have to find out.......

Complete with a lemon-twist you will be riding on the tail of a comet.  Woo hoo!

I can hardly keep my whiskers quiet, wriggling with excitement.    Can't wait for the next book!

Treat yourself and let your imagination take you to new heights in the universe.!!

See you next time MY DARLINGS!  Happy reading!

Furry Kids Come Out to Play = Sabbatical

Hello MY Darlings!

Sabbatical Time
I have been on a sabbatical (did someone say 'bats' lol) of sorts and so has Sr. Knight. We found a wonderful oasis right in the middle of downtown Toronto, steps from our mystical kingdom.  I simply had to share this with you.

Humans know a lot about benefits of sabbatical leave. Well, you know cats do this daily....drifting in an out of their worlds to communicate with their human counterparts LOL!  We do not need permission or appointment for we are 'free spirits'.  They seem to think they 'thought it up'....far from it
it has been part of our culture for eons!  Ancient stories of my ancestors, lounging in Savanna Plain after a good feed!

Savanna is an enormous plain with hills and forests. It has different names in the separate parts of the globe from the equator to tropics.(My mom never taught me how to run up this tree, I guess I'd have to if Sr. Sammy was chasing - now there is a taught)!! LOL

Savanna is an enormous plain between moisture equator forests and tropical deserts. The biggest savannas are in Africa. It is 40% from it. The grass in savanna grows 2-3 meters up and forests are thin. There are parts where trees are scarce. The most enormous tree is baobab that leaves are fallen down. Adansonia is a genus of eight species of tree, six native to Madagascar, one native to mainland Africa and the Arabian Peninsula and one to Australia. The mainland African species also occurs on Madagascar, but it is not a native of that island.

Sabbatical or a sabbatical (from Latin sabbaticus, from Greek sabbatikos, from Hebrew shabbat, i.e., Sabbath, literally a "ceasing") is a rest from work, or a hiatus, often lasting from two months to a year. The concept of sabbatical has a source in shmita, described several places in the Bible (Leviticus 25, for example, where there is a commandment to desist from working the fields in the seventh year). In the strict sense, therefore, sabbatical lasts a year. For the television show, see Sabbatical (TV series)

In recent posts, I meowed a lot about the issues of room mates and there often challenging relationships.  Relationships take work, a little patience and cat optics.
Sabbatical dreams

Relaxing and allowing for the growth of play time and simply chasing mice and birds.
Oh a delicious mouse memory of the Roof Garden

Queen Diva - shows how it's done

Of course room mates need space, and besides what better place to explore the outer reaches of 'secret garden' but on a urban roof garden ...filled with delicious grasses for the picking!

Here's a ditty I just made up (to the tune of Ding Ding Ding Went the Trolly):
"Splat, splat go the flies, ding, ding, ding go the mice, we don't care what we are doing cause we're just having fun".http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0odXnKhKBxQ
It doesn't get better than THIS!

Sometimes we get visiting 'Diva's' from other United Kingdoms dropping in for tea.

Well, my darlings at the end of the day, it's all about catching mice, eating green and enjoying....the right purrspective.

I have all I need!
Do visit and comment on the blog, we love to have you visit again on the roof garden......

Ciao for now.....................

Friday Advice: Room mates 4

Reflective Diva!
Hello MY Darlings:

The interest in room mates, continues to create a strong following.

Personalities often play out, weaving in and out like a ball of string trying to be unraveled!  It's enough to make you shake your head and whiskers!!
"A" type feline personality

Take the other day, it was normal in the kingdom, everyone was getting along (the strong personalities were behaving themselves - for once).
Optics 101

A certain male knight was exhibiting restlessness (pacing, running around the room, frolicking like a drunk foal with springtime fever).

You've got to be kidding!

His body language reveled all, head down, watching his target, prancing and poking at the ME.  "Do you want to play, do ya, do ya, come on, come on...catch me, catch me....I'm just seeing how I can tease you............".

The Royal Hiss shatters the airwaves

(With a deadpan expression)

Are you ignoring me.....OK I'll poke you and sniff you....see how you like it, I'm teasing you - do you know it, do ya"
I've got you under MY Spell

I think he's always acts silly (attention seeking behavior a.s.b.) around dinner time.  A rumbling stirs from within...the Royal hiss of warning...(eyes rolling  to the ceiling --what is it with this guy, didn't he get enough mice last night on the hunting patrol)?

In defense mode, blazing MY front claws...flat and square showing MY authority. Revealing, my talons like a hawk. Eyes pierced the morning light.. glaring as a fire breathing dragon, "are you ready for me darling, are you, can you take it can you".  The Royal hiss shattering the airwaves, he jumped as a scolded cat..... on all three. (Muttering he echoes.)  I'd rather concede than fight.
Feline relationships 101

Before personalities clash like a tambourine's, getting out hand. I grab my trusty 'water pistol' changing the optics. "Come closer, closer, that's it....I see your golden eyes.......(the spray bottle spewing out an umbrella of cold water) stunning the rivalled opponent knocking Mr. Knight off his horse!!

He asked for it - -great spray bottle - lol
OK I did pinch his food, once.

He runs was down the hall across the moat muttering in dulcet tones growling

Whaaaat happened!!
(Stunned, bewildered) "Oh my gosh, what nerve...she did that to meeee. I love to tease you like a BIG brother".

I'll be  BACK
Cats hate getting their face wet.....especially if by surprise.  (Diva laughing....) Not as effective as the pie in the face but close) LOL!    (Wry smile) 'You haven't seen the last of me YET'.

The last word is MINE
(Haughty grin...) The last word is MINE. Remember --Sr. Knight, I have the ace in my paws.

My gamekeeper knows all the mice hideouts, I maintain supply and demand list.

Darlings, remember to stay true to your OWN voice, always demand respect! Have fun and play fair!!! :)
