Cat the Curious - September Post - You Asked? Yes, I love to Keep My Pet Parent Awake!

Hello, Meow.

This is Cali (the Curious).....I've had a very busy summer playing......on the road and keeping my "Pet Parent" up most nights.  It has been very hot and I'm glad it's a bit less humid.  Not like I can take my coat off ...try wearing a fur coat in 30 degree weather (100 F). No cats don't wear bathing suits either......  I'm not fond of 'showers' as I don't like water or getting splashed in the face.  Talk about bad hair day for whiskers...go ahead try it...you'll know what I mean.   I won't go to the Pet Groomer either....as they often have 'dogs' and I prefer to groom myself naturally.  Nothing worse than the smell of a wet dog...yuck......

Oh people have been asking ...are cats really nocturnal (all the more reason to see you in the dark). Well, yes.... I am nocturnal by nature, and love to play at 1 - 2 a.m. which means no sleep for some! My human counterpart is too, although she won't admit it.  I have her on her hands and knees throwing rubber balls at me, she is pretty good for a human.  Her night slight or sense of smell isn't as good as mine, so she has to always adapt...LOL.

I have these marvellous rubber balls that are so soft...it's not the same as a live mouse..but I make them move like they are.   I can catch them meeting them in mid-air, pouncing....with two paws...yesterday, I jumped
2 feet catching ..it was so easy.   I then spent the next 30 minutes annoying my pet parent as I chased them all over the apartment LOL.

You get the idea,  I actually have these hidden is all the awkward places, under the sofa........behind the sofa, under the video cabinet. I tuck them so she will have to craw on her belly to use a stick to get them out. LOL.  Some humans will do anything to get attention...I just love it...don't you!!!

The last count was 8 and even the reserve she keeps on the glass jar...has been used up!!
I have 12 of these all around the apartment - like Easter EGGS.  I think I will call hit 'Humans Go Fetch'!  She will have to go to the Pet Store and beg the manager to get more in LOL!
I have really long body and legs ...to capture anything!

Oh yeessss, I'm trying out the screen on the window to see if my nails will actually cling to the netting...LOL
I pretend to get caught up and my human runs all the way from the living room to rescue me (LOL, doesn't she know it's a trick to see how she will react)?  I may only be 16 months old but, I am learning very quickly.
I have a friend who is a clinical psychologist and I often get good tips from her on 'Human Behavior' and how to push buttons!

Last night it was 2 a.m. I could smell the milk being warmed on the stove....I watched my Pet Parent close her eyes and drink slowly..thinking this would help her sleep -- LOL ...little did she know.....

I love to play with my friend "Boppy"
she is my kitten we spend hours, frolicking
and surprising my pet parent.

Lets face it I can sleep during the day
I have a round tunnel, a super soft pet bed
and even under the bed - when I want 'time out'

Life can be pretty good for an urban cat .....
just keep your whiskers twitching and paws ready to pounce..there are always toes to chase and toes to give an affectionate bite...LOL

What will happen to my human tonight.......we'll if she's not reading this then she will never figure it out -- cause I keep learning...aren't you just curious...

More stories soon, when my human gives me something to write about....

Curious Cali - Human Step Ladder - or What I Did to Get Her Attention ^..^!

Hi Curious Cali here....(yawn)!  I was just outside playing in the field chasing a few mice!

I'm a natural climber and have no problems about heights, I leap and bound on furniture traverse across cabinets
and spy from above!

My kitten voice sends out the odd 'meep' when I want something, but I never disclose my
hiding places!!!! LOL

The spring air has given me lots of energy .......
I love to stand on my hind legs (I guess watching too many dog cartoons - LOL).
Did you know that your 'human parent' makes a great step ladder.  That's right...you can.   A vertical jump in stages is the best, just make sure your claws are nice and sharp to dig into the clothing!

I always like to see what MY human is doing, especially a meal times, when I want to see what I'm getting for my meal!  This brings you closer to the food and to use all your senses: eyes, nose and paws if you can get that close. LOL

I'm naturally athletic by nature, and I dine on on my own space called a Credenza!  It comes complete with a table cloth and I'm left to my own devices to 'eat' and 'wash up'
after (that is my face).  I don't do dishes and will never learn
despite the fact I am smart. ^..^.

Now the first time I made this leap into the heavens was bit scary,
I don't have a safety net and like great human acrobatics....
it's all in the nerve..and my whiskers help that along nicely!

The funniest thing was when I got caught in my pet parents clothing!

I was literally stuck, I thought she had arms like an orangutan -- not so  ...as I found out.  I meeped and let her know and she managed talk to me softly with reassurance. Then gently secured me
to safety.

Jemina from Cats
After all
that excitement, I ate and ate....like there was no tomorrow!

I know my mentor "Jemina" from cats would have been impressed with my efforts  Cat "Moonlight"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwfbPc4K9Og.

After a few days, I managed to get my 'kitten nerve' up again and with practice was able to make the leap in three stages: legs, upper back and mid back.    This was great fun and if you are going to practice the 'step ladder' make sure you try it with your kitten friends but don't hurt yourself.

Life as a kitten can be quite fun, no need for 'fancy' toys, when you have: a sideboard, sofa, wall unit and a human to provide plenty of playtime.  When you get tired you can 'cat nap' or chase that ball of paper around the living room at 3 a.m. to impress!!!

Food time: Well, attention seeking behavior is always in your best interest when it's food time.......^..^....!

I thought I'd better get my paws moving, by writing today - otherwise I may not get (supper)???  (Yeh, I know my pet parent too well........she is too good to me LOL)!!!!

Put your PAWS together and come on over and visit, play and share some food here.  We love to have your comments too.   Send me a PAW note if you have story ideas or want to share!

Cali the Curious #2 - Spring Cleaning - Fur Balls, Toys and Other Charged Particles!

^..^!  Well hello! Welcome to my blog and happy Spring to all kittens, felines, canine, four legged creatures and beloved "Pet Parents".  I'm curious - aren't you .....^..^!
..
I am so excited you see sitting from my window, playing with the vertical blinds (driving my pet parent crazy - it's only 7 a.m.).

For the first time in months, my pet parent carefully opened the living room windows enticing me to 'sniff' the fresh air, it feels wonderful on my nose and whiskers!

Well, I just managed to grab the cord from the chandelier lamp, bending over from the window sill...not a good thing to do generally after eating, but then kittens have amazing power of balance and digestion (don't they)???
Spring arrives at dinner time March 20 2015
Meow, I'm only 11 months and still learning all of this!  I slipped scaring my self silly, running across the living room carpet, to my pet parent with eyes wide open as a squirrel ^..^!  She seems to take it all in her stride, since this is the first official day of Spring, March 20, I am full of energy.  Spring will arrive officially at 6.45 p.m tonight just in time for my dinner - yummy!

^..^...I'm sitting here grooming which I dictate this blog to my pet parent -- ummm, I'm enjoying grooming on the sofa then I sneak behind the laptop to make sure she is still typing..l\o c8c0x088 (oh that is me walking across the keyboard...a little variety is good for kittens, always plenty to explore.
A little moisture evaporates
^..^....A little 'kitten advice'. This is shedding season for kitten and cats, which means 'fur ball' issues. Getting rid of the winter fur is a challenge, it happens naturally.  We can't digest the fur and this sometimes gets trapped in our intestinal track.  It is the season to be giving (lol ^..^).  My pet parent has been very kind offering little fur ball treats (broken up small, and this morning I has a delicious salmon paste - yummy).

I'm pleased too that the humidifier has been adjusted to 30-35% as it was the 'charge of the light brigade' with static shock, which created 'bad hair days', me flying across the room and staying in one place  (lying on paper as a neutral position):
Thanks to funnypics.com for the inspiration.

The science of it all! "Protons, neutrons and electrons are very different from each other. They have their own properties, or characteristics. One of these properties is called an electrical charge. Protons have what we call a "positive" (+) charge. Electrons have a "negative" (-) charge. Neutrons have no charge, they are neutral.
The charge of one proton is equal in strength to the charge of one electron. When the number of protons in an atom equals the number of electrons, the atom itself has no overall charge, it is neutral.

So what are atoms made of? In the middle of each atom is a "nucleus." The nucleus contains two kinds of tiny particles, called protons and neutrons. Orbiting around the nucleus are even smaller particles called electrons. The 115 (the #5 looks like me sitting on the window sill LOL) kinds of atoms are different from each other because they have different numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons.

Static electricity is common when the air is dry and the humidity is low, so it is a much more frequent problem in the winter months when the air is cold and dry, and indoor heating removes moisture from the air. Problem static electricity can also occur year-round in places with a dry climate. Your pet’s fur will build up a small electrical charge, and sometimes the fur may even visibly stand on-end. When you touch your pet, you both may receive a small shock.
"Playing in the Neutral Zone" LOL

Not surprisingly, the solution is to add moisture back to your environment and/or your pet’s fur. A room humidifier will add needed moisture to the air, reducing static electricity. A light mist of water on your pet’s fur will make the fur incapable of holding a static charge. You can also add moisture to your pet’s fur by bathing a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, you can also get ionic brushes to help eliminate this http:www.petmeds.org Also, consider adding an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement to your pet’s diet to keep his coat healthy, shiny and moisturized from the inside-out".

Always check with your Veterinarian or friendly technician on these issues.
Well after all this I'm off to EAT and get a snack - meow!! Stretching my paws and running to my food station!!! ^..^!

Whether you are a kitten, cat, canine
or pet parent, Spring is wonderful!

Please take extra care to keep things like:

Q-tips (kittens love to chew on the ends of the cotton): string, elastic bands away from your beloved pet children, as they can cause serious GI issues.

My loving pet parent is extra careful and we often play on the carpet together, with all my lovely toys.  Do take care until next time run around the room, chase your pet parent and keep your white paws shinny and clean!

We love to have your comments, 'tap your paws away and let us know what you think (wiggling whiskers)!!
Its time to play - enjoy your day! Happy PAWS!
